My approach
Profoundly influenced by the sculptures of Alberto Giacometti, Eduardo Chillida, and David Smith, I remember the first time I saw their work: I suddenly knew my visions could be realized. Their pieces were a revelation as to what was possible in the world of metal sculpture.
Similarly, the paintings of Francesco Clemente and Jeff Rowe made me conscious of the potential impact of two-dimensional pieces. As a result of these influences, most of my own work consists mostly of metal sculpture or mixed-media paintings. In addition to creating art from new and found metal, I am drawn to old western-themed signs that have been aged by the environment and capture a specific point in time.
In collaborative, design-based efforts, I listen to people’s ideas, obstacles, and goals and try to find solutions. Whether it takes the form of a sculpture, table, interactive piece, or installation, my goal is to provide results that are more than just products or art pieces; but contain an element of humanity. People are always talking about ‘abstract’ or putting names on shit, but what matters to me is what each individual perceives and sees with their own eyes.
